On the 22nd and 23rd of September Dr. Giammatteo Cecchini was invited to attend a Congress in Venice, organised by AITEB Associazione Italiana Terapia Estetica Botulino, to discuss the new techniques used in the treatment with fillers.
In these days dr. Cecchini is in Pavia, at a very well known Medical Center, to hold a course about the most used techniques for the treatment of the face with hyaluronic acid.

During these days of July Dr. Giammatteo Cecchini is in Dubai at The Royal Doctors Polyclinic where he is continuing his collaboration with the clinic and he is performing surgeries and having consultations with patients from the UAE.

From June 7th to June 9th Dr. Cecchini was in Stockholm, Sweden, to attend the Beauty Through Science 2018 International Aesthetic Medicine Congress, one of the largest aesthetic medicine symposiums in Northern Europe. In 2002 Akademikliniken had its first international symposium, which was a relatively small meeting focusing on breast implant surgery. Today it has become the largest aesthetic medicine meeting in Scandinavia, with more than 800 participants from more than 50 countries.

Plastic Surgery, as any medical science, has made great strides with regards to techniques, materials, and results. But it has gained experience as regards to the approach to surgeries, just like patients have increased their awareness in their requests to the specialist. What has changed? In which direction is the general public’s approach to Aesthetic Surgery evolving? We talked about this with Dr. Giammatteo Cecchini, Specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, who plays a leading role in the international stage as an excellence in the field.
Who is Dr. Giammatteo Cecchini?
Graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pisa, with two specialisations in General Surgery and Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, during his long and brilliant career he performed over 13.000 surgeries and more than 10.000 non-invasive procedures. Dr. Cecchini currently works in Pisa and he worked in International Structures in New York, Paris and Vienna. He recently has earned the eminent title of Consultant in Plastic Surgery, which allows him to works in the United Arab Emirates.
Dr. Cecchini, when, during your educational path, did you realise that you wanted to professionally dedicate yourself to Aesthetic Surgery?
My educational path started with General Surgery and later with Plastic Surgery. I developed a passion for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery when I understood that for contributing to the wellness of patients it wasn’t sufficient to just cure them, but it was necessary to improve their quality of life, too. This was very clear to me when I operated on patients with breast cancer: at the beginning it was very important to control the illness but they didn’t feel recovered until they underwent the complete reconstruction of the breast. There, I understood how Aesthetic Surgery was important for a normal social life and for relationships.
Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, social phenomenon or a real need of psychophysical wellness; what has changed within the cultural approach to this type of medicine on a social level?
By now, although in different levels, almost every woman seeks a small or big help to improve her appearance and to prevent normal ageing process. The increased self-esteem, due to these treatments, contributes hugely to everyone’s psychophysical wellness. That made it an important social event. Moreover, the general opinion and judgement about these treatments, if results are adequate and natural, are very positive from these people who don’t undergo these procedures, too.
Which aspects of your job are more subject to change during time in addition to the normal evolution of technique?
In the last few years Aesthetic Surgery has gained a scientific dignity that in the past it didn’t have: today, the plastic surgeon who dedicates himself to this specialty needs to have a particular educational path. In the past, patients who turned to Aesthetic Surgery were older and asked for evident and big results. Today instead, the real change is that the age of our patients is lower and they want more natural results and fast post-operative progresses. The fact that surgeries are less invasive and simpler today has increased the number of patients and has made this specialty important for everyone’s psychophysical wellness.
What will you suggest to a young grad student who decides to undertake your career?
To a young student who wishes to undertake my career I will suggest passion, study and dedication. I think that it will be useful to attend a training in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery in a teaching hospital to gain experience and those general principles essential for every kind of surgery. After that, I think it will be useful to place side by side with expert surgeons in Aesthetic Surgery to gain a personal experience under their supervision. It requires many years and experience before treating patients alone.
In these days, it marks the anniversary of the registration to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the illustrious Association of which dr. Giammatteo Cecchini is a member from 2010.
Saturday 10th February, dr. Giammatteo Cecchini participated as lecturer to the AICPE training course Advanced Aesthetic Medicine on the side of the Plastic Surgeon, which was held in Florence at the Medlight Clinic. Dr. Cecchini gave a presentation called ” The Treatment of the Malar Region: the third way between Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery”, followed by a live session in which dr. Cecchini performed a treatment on a patient.
On the occasion of the opening of the new Studio Medico Le Cascine, on Saturday 20th of January dr. Giammatteo Cecchini taught a refresher course to a group of colleagues which practise the same profession. The subject of the course was Full-Face Treatment: dr. Cecchini gave a presentation about the subject and later he performed full-face treatments on a few patients.
On the 11th and 12th of December, dr. Cecchini was invited as consultant to partecipate to the Workshops in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, at Dr. Samiha Lutfi Center, Med Art Clinics, Al Qadi Medical Centre e First Medical Center. Here a few pictures of the sessions.
